Now that you've set up your warehouse in GoldFinch, it’s time to explore options for managing your consumption and output inventory effectively, especially in relation to production.

Key Fields for Warehouse Setup Related to Production

Field Name

Explanation

Warehouse Name

Ensure that you are updating the correct warehouse if you manage multiple warehouses.

Receive Bin

The default bin for receiving purchased goods.

Ship Bin

The default bin for shipping sellable goods.

Output Bin

This is the default location where your output inventory (finished products) is posted.

Input Bin

The bin from which your consumption (materials used in production) will be taken by default.

Batch Output Bin

For Batch Manufacturing only. This is where the output inventory for batch-manufactured items is posted by default.

Batch Input Bin

For Batch Manufacturing only. This is the default bin for raw materials used in batch manufacturing.

Understanding a One-Bin Solution

A "one-bin solution" is often recommended for implementations in GoldFinch, especially for companies not yet operating in bin-managed locations. This strategy simplifies the initial setup, allowing you to become familiar with the system before introducing additional complexity.

  • One-Bin Solution Setup:

    • Typically, a single bin (often named PICK) is used for both Receiving and Shipping. This main bin streamlines operations and keeps things simple.

  • Manufacturing Considerations:

    • For manufacturing processes, you may be advised to add a second bin (commonly called STAGING) for production. This bin represents the inventory located on the production floor, ready to be consumed.

    • Setting up your warehouse with this second bin allows for better control over the inventory brought to the production floor and can help streamline the manufacturing process.
