Overview of Stockkeeping Units (SKUs)
Stockkeeping Units (SKUs) are essential for calculating supply plans, organized by both warehouse and item.
What is a Stockkeeping Unit?
In GoldFinch, a Stockkeeping Unit (SKU) is a unique record that links an item with its specific warehouse location. SKUs are used to define individual rules such as lead time and reorder points, customized to the needs of each warehouse. This flexible setup allows you to optimize your inventory strategy across various locations, ensuring efficient supply chain management.
How to Create an Item SKU
You can easily create SKUs using the "Create Item SKU" routine.
Before running the routine, ensure the following:
-
For a warehouse to be included:
-
Enabled Demand Forecasting = Checked
-
Use As In-Transit = Unchecked
-
-
For an item to be included:
-
Blocked = Unchecked
-
Steps to create SKUs:
-
Navigate to Administration app → Inventory menu.
-
Click on the Create Item SKU routine.
This will automatically generate new SKUs for selected items and warehouses. -
After running the process, a success message will confirm completion.
You can also schedule this routine to run at night. To do this, use the CreateItemSKUBatch Apex Class.
Phantom BOM Items
Phantom BOM items are service items. To calculate the supply of components for Phantom Items, you must manually create a Stockkeeping Unit with the following parameters:
-
Warehouse: Set to the planning warehouse.
-
Replenishment System: Set to Work Order.
Viewing and Editing SKUs
Once SKUs are created, you can view and edit them from two locations:
-
From within the Item Card:
Access the relevant SKU details and make necessary updates to planning parameters based on the specific warehouse.
-
Via the App Launcher:
Scroll down to the Stockkeeping Units tab for direct access to all SKU records.
This flexibility ensures you can adjust inventory rules as needed to keep your supply plans accurate and efficient.
