Inventory Transfer and Consignment Warehouse Guidelines
-
You can transfer inventory between consignment warehouses even if the GL Ledgers assigned to the warehouses are different.
-
A Consignment Warehouse is identified by the "Is Consignment" checkbox being checked.
-
On the Transfer Journal, the GL Ledger must match the GL Ledger assigned to the Transfer-To Warehouse.
Posting Inventory to Consignment Warehouses
-
When adding inventory to a consignment warehouse, always use a unit cost of 0.
-
If inventory is posted with a non-zero cost, you must zero out the inventory as soon as possible to maintain a clean balance sheet.
Transferring Inventory from Owned to Consignment Warehouses
-
Use a Sales Order to deduct inventory from the owned warehouse.
-
Then use an Item Journal to add inventory to the consignment warehouse at zero cost.
Transferring Inventory Between Owned Warehouses Across Different GL Ledgers
-
You must use inter-company Purchase Orders and inter-company Sales Orders to handle the transfer properly between ledgers. Read Process Intercompany Transactions for more details.
