Vendors may supply different revisions of the same raw material item. To maintain traceability and compliance, it's important to track which revision is used in each finished good.
There are several options depending on your needs:
1. Create a Different Item No.
-
Best for major changes.
-
Allows clear separation of inventory, BOM, and pricing.
-
Requires updating your pricing catalog and Item Formulas.
2. Use Lot Tracking
-
Ideal for traceability without creating new Item Nos.
-
Each lot can represent a specific revision.
-
Works well if your system supports lot-based inventory.
3. Add a Revision No. Field to the Work Line
-
Use this when you:
-
Don't want to create new Item Nos.
-
Can’t or prefer not to enable lot tracking.
-
Want to keep vendor pricing and BOMs unchanged.
-
-
Move the inventory of older revisions to a separate bin.
-
Users can then select the correct revision at the Work Order level.
