Yes, GoldFinch can support RFID, depending on how the RFID hardware is used.
Today, GoldFinch's mobile scanning solution is designed around standard barcode scanning. Scanners communicate with GoldFinch by sending the scanned value as keyboard input, so from the application's perspective, it simply receives a scanned identifier.
Because of this architecture, GoldFinch can also work with RFID readers that operate in keyboard-wedge (HID) mode. These readers transmit a single RFID tag ID exactly like a barcode scanner sends a barcode, allowing existing receiving, picking, shipping, inventory counting, and warehouse workflows to work with little or no software changes.
For customers who want to take advantage of RFID's full capabilities—such as reading dozens or hundreds of tags simultaneously, scanning an entire pallet or bin without line of sight, or performing high-speed inventory verification—additional integration is required. These advanced scenarios use the RFID reader's native SDK or APIs and require enhancements to process multiple tags in a single scan event.
In summary:
- Single-tag RFID (keyboard-wedge mode): Supported with compatible RFID readers and minimal changes.
- Bulk RFID scanning (multiple tags simultaneously): Can be implemented as a custom enhancement using the RFID manufacturer's SDK and APIs.
GoldFinch's flexible scanning architecture allows customers to start with standard barcode scanning and adopt RFID as their operational requirements evolve.
