Configure Formula Versions

GoldFinch supports tracking multiple versions of Item Formulas (BOMs) to provide flexibility and traceability for both batch and engineering manufacturing processes.

Do You Need Formula Versions?

• Not Required for most standard manufacturing operations.

• Required for batch manufacturing if you intend to manage formulas using percentages.

• Recommended for engineering manufacturers who:

  • Frequently update Item Formulas using CAD/engineering tools (e.g., SolidWorks).

  • Want to automatically import BOMs with clear version control.

Why Use Formula Versions?

• Preserve historical versions for comparison and traceability.

• Ensure data completeness when importing or updating BOMs.

• Enable accurate planning and production using the correct version.

Best Practices and Considerations

• Deactivate old Formula Versions by setting the Ending Date to the day before today.

• Set Today as the Starting Date for the new Formula Version.

• Ensure that there is only one active Formula Version per item on any given date to streamline operations.

System Behavior

• Supply Planning will use the first active Formula Version to generate suggestions and create Work Orders.

  • Read Calculate Supply Plans for more details.

• When manually creating Work Orders, the system will default to the first default active Formula Version.

  • Read Create Work Orders for more details.

Benefits of Using Formula Versions

• Enables traceability of outputs via Serial No. or Item Lot, linking back to the exact Formula Version used.

• Allows side-by-side comparisons of BOM changes over time.

• Supports regulatory compliance and process control in industries requiring strict version tracking.
