Item Setup Overview

GoldFinch allows you to configure items to track the goods and services your business trades. These items can include finished goods, subassemblies, raw materials, non-inventory items, and service items. You can also set up item details for buying, selling, production, storage, and delivery, as well as configure GL account details.

Set Up Items

• Open the App Launcher and search for Items.

• Several demo inventory and service items are created by the post-installation script, which you can use for creating transactions.

• To efficiently create new items based on existing configurations, read Clone Items to learn how to duplicate demo items along with their related records, such as:

  • Item Unit of Measure

  • Formula Version

  • Item Formula

  • Routing Version

  • Item Routings

If you have many items, you can use the Import Items template to bulk import your existing items.

Before creating or importing new items, ensure the following tables are configured:

• Unit of Measure: Frequently used Units of Measure are pre-configured by the post-installation script. You can add new units but should not rename or delete existing ones. To add units, select App Launcher > Unit of Measures.
• Item Category: Used to classify items for filtering and reporting. It is the top-level grouping for items, and only one category can be assigned to each item. Item Categories are optional, but recommended if you have many items to configure. Select App Launcher > Item Categories.

Configuring Related Records

• Item Unit of Measure: One item can have multiple units of measure. Proper configuration of Item Units of Measure is critical for the successful setup of GoldFinch. Learn more by visiting Item Units of Measure.

• Formula Version: This is optional for manufactured items. One item can have multiple formula versions. The Formula Version is mandatory if you plan to use the Percentage for Formula Management.

• Item Formulas: Mandatory for manufactured items. You can use the Import Item Formulas tool for bulk imports.

• Routing Version: Optional for manufactured items. Multiple routing versions can be created per item.

• Item Routings: Optional for manufactured items.
